IDD Therapy Spinal Decompression in Liverpool

At Liverpool Chiropractic Clinic, we help people with persistent back and neck problems that have not fully responded to hands-on treatment alone. Led by Dr. Alex Eatly, our clinic offers IDD Therapy spinal decompression, a highly targeted, non-surgical approach designed for specific spinal conditions such as disc injury and nerve compression.

IDD Therapy is recognised internationally as the gold standard in spinal decompression, offering a precise and controlled treatment to help people get their lives back without resorting to injections or surgery. If you have been living with ongoing symptoms despite different forms of manual treatment, exercise or medication, IDD Therapy helps to bridge the gap between conservative care and more invasive options.

Who Is IDD Therapy For?

IDD Therapy is suitable for people experiencing unresolved spinal symptoms that limit daily life, work, or activity. It is most commonly used for patients with:

Each patient is carefully assessed to ensure IDD Therapy is appropriate. Not every back or neck problem requires decompression, which is why we only recommend it when it is clinically indicated.

IDD Therapy at Liverpool Chiropractic Clinic

Dr Alex Eatly and the team use IDD Therapy as part of a broader clinical approach. It is not a standalone solution, but a tool that complements chiropractic care, rehabilitation and movement-based recovery.

IDD Therapy allows us to help a group of patients who often feel stuck. They may have tried several treatments and still struggle with disc or nerve-related symptoms. The precision of IDD Therapy gives us a way to address the underlying mechanical issue and support recovery in a structured, measurable way.

How Does IDD Therapy Work?

IDD Therapy uses a computer-controlled system to apply gentle, progressive decompression to a specific spinal segment. Unlike generic traction of old, IDD Therapy allows us to:

Treatment is delivered on the Accu-SPINA system and forms part of a structured programme, typically delivered over a number of weeks. Each session is closely monitored and adjusted based on your progression.
Our goal is to ease pressure on targeted spinal structures and create an environment for healing. By restoring function and improving strength and mobility, we aim to relieve pain for the long term and enable you to get back to things you love doing.

What to Expect

Your care pathway typically includes:

Our aim is to provide clear answers, realistic expectations and a plan that fits your condition and goals.

Why choose IDD Therapy?

Frequently Asked Questions

Things people often ask about IDD Therapy

I have had a spinal injection, can I still have IDD Therapy?

Yes. We wait for the effects of an injection to settle and then you can start treatment. We allow two weeks from the injection. Our goal is to avoid the need for injections and surgery.

If you have an MRI scan, your supervising clinician should give guidance on treatment options. If there is no recommendation for urgent surgery and where conservative treatment is advised, you can bring your MRI to the clinic. The MRI scan will confirm the likely source of the problem. Note, whilst the focus may be on the injured disc, we look at improving overall spinal function. If a patient has had surgery and there are no metal implants in the spine, we would use IDD Therapy six months after the operation to allow time for healing. If we did not feel your condition was suitable for IDD Therapy, we can recommend other treatments or refer you to appropriate clinicians.
No. The treatment is computer-controlled and whilst there is a pulling force to unload the disc and mobilise the spinal joints, it is gentle and comfortable. Many patients fall asleep in fact.
No. Patients remain fully clothed throughout.
Treatment is suitable for patients over the age of 18. This is when growth plates are fully formed. There is no upper age limit although we will assess suitability for treatment on an individual basis.
Yes. Patients have a programme of treatment. We divide the programme into stages of adaptation and progression. Spinal issues that have built up over time can leave spinal segments stiff and immobile. Muscles and ligaments which have become weak and inflexible need time to adapt as treatment progresses.
You will be in the clinic for up to one hour. Treatment begins with ten minutes of deep penetrating heat to warm tissues. You are on the IDD Therapy machine for twenty-six minutes and we cool the affected area for ten minutes after treatment.
Treatment forms part of a programme and is charged from £80 per treatment.
The treatment programme is designed to put patients onto a path of long term healing. As we progressively restore spinal function, the body’s natural healing mechanisms can operate and maintain the spine and this is the route to long term pain relief. We will help you with certain lifestyle and exercises to maintain your spine. Fear not, the exercise and activity we teach you is gentle and military-style boot camp.
Traditional traction applied a general pull to the whole spine. IDD Therapy isolates the specific spinal level involved and applies highly controlled, measured forces combined with gentle mobilisation. This targeted approach is what makes it effective for disc-related problems.
Since the early 2000s. It is now widely used in clinics across the UK and internationally, with over 2,000 Accu-SPINA systems in operation.
